Flying Doctors
I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday and safari, but no matter who you travel
with medical emergencies can occur at any time.
If this happens, for whatever reason ,while you are on safari and you are many miles,
and hours away from reaching medical help this could be potentially life threatening.
AMREF's Flying Doctor Service can make a difference in such cases.
They are based in Kenya and is the largest and best known Air Ambulance Service in the region.
It provides a range of services from evacuation by air ambulance to medical escort and dispatch.
The flying doctor's service runs a fleet of aircraft and ground ambulances staffed
by highly qualified medical staff and aircrew.
Evacuation requests are assessed by the Aeromedical Coordinators who are closely
supervised by the Medical Director.
The Flying Doctors can assist in arranging hospital
accommodation but are NOT responsible for hospital bills.
A ground ambulance will be provided by the Flying Doctors in Nairobi
and is included in the cost of their response.
Tourist Membership is $30 per person for 14 days and is $50 per person for up to 2 months.
This is a small amount to pay to have peace of mind when away.
